As stated earlier I was part of a great panel discussion regarding Mobile App vs. Mobile Web(Browser) yesterday in the premises of Grey in Dusseldorf. The house was absolutely packed with more then 140 people which already showed the terrific interest about the topic that is out there.
In the discussion I brought up some fact and thesis which I would like to add here as well, for those who were not there:
- Get rid of engineer-discussion
- Mobile Web is what we producer want to have the people desire
- Freedom of creation and maximum consumer choice is not necessary the most economically one
- Brands need a consistent highlight of their product
- 2010 will be a big year for mobile application downloads, with almost 6 billion mobile applications forecast to be downloaded, up from an estimated 2.4 billion in 2009, mobile application downloads will peak in 2012 and then start declining in 2013 (ABI forecast)
- Apple definitively leads smartphone providers in customer satisfaction with an overall satisfaction rating of 810 on a 1,000-point scale. No other manufacturer scored above the industry average of 753.
- App consumers are much more engaged than Web users. NPR’s iPhone and Android users consume up to six times more page views as traditional NPR.org Web viewers.
- Apps are bought and used by people with higher income. 25% of families with an income higher then 4.000 € in Germany have already used an app on their phone.
- 66% of germans can explain what an App is.
- 11% actually have apps on their devices.
Additionally you can see the results of the poll I initiated yesterday before the event regarding usage of Mobile Apps at my recent post: http://scholly.mobi/?p=234
